At Lazy Acres, we provide a safe and nurturing home for horses in their golden years, during rest periods, horse-sitting, or while they recover and regain strength. Nestled in the heart of New Zealand’s countryside, our Kapiti Coast farm offers open pastures, individual care, and a calm environment designed with your horse’s wellbeing in mind. Lazy Acres is owned and operated by Black Hawk Farm.

My horse was extremely well looked after from weanling foal until a 4 year old, and I was always kept well informed about their wellbeing and daily routine. Carolyn cares for your horse as if he is her own precious baby.
The service included high-quality grazing in well-fenced paddocks, regular feeding and worming, and daily health checks. The team also made sure my horse’s rug was changed as needed to suit the weather conditions – a thoughtful detail that shows their genuine care and professionalism.

We have kept our spelling, retired, and young horses with Carolyn and Sarah over the last four years. They are trimmed, medicated, covered, and rotated with baleage as required. The horses always have eyes on them and we receive regular updates on their health and wellbeing. The care is second to none and we are very grateful for the peace of mind for our horses away from home.

At Lazy Acres, horses come first. We believe in giving each horse the time, space, and care they deserve, whether they’re enjoying a well-earned retirement, grazing happily while their owner is away, or taking the careful steps needed on the road to recovery.
My little mare has had the absolute privilege of living a retirement of total luxury with Carolyn and Sarah at Black Hawk Farm since 2014. She is grazed in lush, safely fenced paddocks under mature trees for year round shade and shelter. Her paddock buddies have been well matched to her temperament and quirks. I receive regular updates and videos of her wellbeing. She is checked daily and Black Hawk Farm now has cameras installed for round the clock monitoring, too. Carolyn is proactive with communications in regard to her management plan for extreme weather or other events to ensure everyone is kept safe. Carolyn is a genuine animal lover. She is kind, caring, and empathetic. Her consideration, care, and management of the equine residents at Black Hawk Farm is nothing short of outstanding.
